Yes. That's the way I love it. A small frame with certain... things, appropriately oversized. My computer of course!
Anyone who's seen my computer knows half of what I'm talking about. Full-powered gaming rig (with "only" an 3500+, 1 GB of RAM, X800 XT AIW card) of the upper-mid level with 420 GB of disk space, occupying less space than your average toaster oven. It's beautiful. Big, and small.
My new monitor adds to this. It's a "mere" 19 lbs for a 20.1" LCD. My monitors each weigh as much or more than my computer! But still they're comparatively light, with lots of display space.
Let's see. What do you see? On the left my 1600x1200 monitor, on the right the extended desktop of 1280x1024 backup goodness. This is a perfect scale comparison of the size increase I got by adding the larger monitor to my configuration (back story for those who aren't me: I ordered this monitor from IBM 6-7 months ago and got it just recently, a week before my birthday). Note that both are fairly empty. I like it that way. Clean, simple. Primary has My Computer (Twile), my Recycling Bin, and a folder of things I have yet to sort, or will use soon. Also has a Start Bar. Secondary has two Dock menus. They're like Mac Docks but infinitely better. The one on top, which my mouse is keeping from auto-hiding, is a Tabbed dock. I pick the tabs, icons, programs, etc, that go in it. This, Mac users do not have The one on the right is a standard Dock they're more used to. In this case, the only thing it shows is my CPU utilization over time (useful info to have, plus if the Dock is empty it looks really weird >_< ).
What's this lovely screenshot being displayed front, center? Why, it's from 1999's Game of the Year, Homeworld! Yes, 6+ years later it's still wonderfully fun and motivating. I highly recommend everyone play it, followed by Homeworld: Cataclysm and Homeworld 2. IN THAT ORDER!
In the screenshot being showcased, my 29 Ion Frigates are unleasing electrically charged death upon a hapless Taiidan Carrier as it prepares for a Hyperspace jump. Less than .5 seconds after this screenshot was taken, the Carrier went byebye. And not into Hyperspace. "The Taiidan Carrier is preparing to jump to Hyperspace" "Oh HELL no! *zap*".
Yes. I play all games at 1600x1200 now. It is godly. I don't think they even make TVs that go up that high, not even those crazy expensive 40"+ Plasma and LCD ones.
...This is like something off an Apple website. You get to see the "full" version of the image at the high res, and then the cropped version that represents what the cheapos who get the smaller monitor are missing out on.
